Occidental Power Services (OPSI) operates a comprehensive trading desk that encompasses a 24 hour real-time group, forward trading division, asset management group and a structured product desk to handle electricity supply and demand-related issues for clients in the North American market. OPSI provides wholesale energy risk management and energy asset management services to help customers reduce both commodity and operational risk.
OPSI actively participates in the power market throughout North America and is a member/market participant in:
- Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC)
- PJM ISO
- California ISO
- Midwest ISO
- Entergy
- ERCOT
- New York ISO
OPSI also provides energy trading and risk management services to other Oxy affiliates, and is a partner in Elk Hills Power, LLC, which currently generates 550 megawatts (Mw) of electric power located amid Oxy's giant Elk Hills oil and gas field in the middle of California's power and gas distribution grids.
In Texas, OPSI provides services for it affiliated Battleground Cogeneration facility (300 Mw combined cycle) and Ingleside Cogeneration facility (440 Mw). OPSI also provides services for its affiliated Taft Cogeneration facility, a 800 Mw combined-cycle plant in Louisiana. Oxy's participation as both an industrial consumer and electricity generator, uniquely positions OPSI to be able to provide a variety of asset services to market participants throughout the grid.
